Meet Jason Makowski!

What is a book that you’ve read that has impacted your success?

“One of my favorite books is Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. The theme behind this book is: when you arrive at work in the morning, accomplish the items you least desire to work on. Get them done, and the rest of the day becomes easier and easier.”

How did you choose this career path?

“I took a real estate class at Grand Valley, which I found very interesting. From there, I got introduced to Stanley Wisinski and talked with him about joining his team at SJ Wisinski. I got offered the job in January of 2004 and have been in Commercial Real Estate ever since.”

How have you been able to successfully network yourself?

“For me personally, I’ve been able to network by getting involved with CAR, going to specific networking events, going out to lunch with different agents in the market, etc. In doing so, you meet a lot of people from different occupations, which helps in getting your name out.”

What values and beliefs define the way you do business?

“I tell my clients ‘I will never put you in a position I wouldn’t put myself in.’ Ethics and honesty are two very important characteristics that you need to have incorporated into your business and the way you do things. If you’re not straightforward with people, it will catch up to you.”

If you had one piece of advice for someone starting out in commercial real estate, what would that be?

“The biggest piece of advice from my perspective would be to keep your nose to the grindstone. Put the hours upfront because it will pay dividends on the back-end. I think where people get in trouble is when they get loose in their workdays, whether that be cutting out early for the day or not working as much; that can negatively affect your listing database. Make sure that you do as much research as you can as well as letting people know what you are doing.”

What do you enjoy most about working for NAI Wisinski?

“The environment and the people. Everyone is an open door, and there is a lot of knowledge between the agents in the office as well as the staff. Some people have been here since the beginning of the company and have a wealth of knowledge and are always available to assist one another.

People outside of the market have this perception that we’re kind of a traditional organization, which I beg to differ with. I think we have a great group of people here that enjoys having fun with one other. You can’t find a better group of people than what we have at this firm.”
